Printing contact

I was getting some work bound at the printers near our uni and mentioned about our grad show and I negotiated a bulk discount if we get our personal prints done there for the show.

They would charge $30 for A1 and $60 for A0 - but they don't do the mounting - pretty good deal - not too sure about how heavy the paper stock is etc - but I think it would just be standard matt.

Contact Dwayne Pannell @ AusCopy38
Little Latrobe St96623677

Let him know you are from RMIT Industrial Design There is no obligation or anything - but they seemed like nice people - not as run off their feet as dinkums and better service and quality.

Hope that helps

Venue Change Smartz Arts

As you may or may not now know the Euroleuce Venue fell through, there was a second venue which was looked into however it really wasn't suitible for our event. Through lack of planning we had not secured an adequate secondary venue to fall back on. However, due to my ingenious research skills I was able to discover an art gallery space which had recently opened and will be availible for our end of year Exhibition. Go me! :-)

So what can I tell you about it. Because they have just opened the WHOLE Venue 270sq metres is AVAILIBLE for the WHOLE week of NOV! Its a converted warehouse art Gallery. It's called Smartz art Gallery in 2 Alfred place South melbourne. They even have plinths for us to use and have a grand piano which we can have someone play. We were extremely Lucky to come across this find as we would not have found anything like this at such a late stage.

Printing

I heard about a printing service called Big Print located on Lonsdale st. They say they do cheap printing and do a range of services. Perhaps getting a quote from them would be worthwhile?
There is an online quote service (Obligation free)

Swede's do it better

Hyper Island is a new media/design school in Sweden. Every year each ‘crew’ of hyper island creates a website to promote themselves. The website is sexy, and the amount of effort is crazy (like filming in HD & in an airport!) - All in an effort to promote themselves for possible internships. Very inspiring stuff, (needs a lot of bandwidth).

Thursday meeting: Pre Super Seeded!

Thursday's class involved going through the progress we are making. As far as sponsorship goes the chocolates seem to be selling very well. In other areas, we are looking to find an identity for the exhibition. We had nice initial poster concepts from Steph and Mark, some ideas being put forward include photos of each person in the year.

As far as naming the exhibition we have had some progress. We were looking for a title which captures the spirit of our year level.
Suggestions for a title for the exhibition have been put forward the top favourites including:

industrial revolution
the afterlife
idge
bridge
ridge
pre super seeded

And pre super seeded seems to be the winner so far! the theme encapsulates several different meanings including superceded an a word, super heros and possibly super seeds, or plant seeds that are super.

Work images for Grad Exhibition

We need your work images. Following up from the graduate exhibition colloquium, we need 2 indicative images of your work so we can secure a venue. How you intend to present (ie. the dimensions 3d, 2d, projections, hung from the roof, on the floor etc...). and some key words or a very brief project description. These images can be a rough sketch, photos, anything.

We need these asap so that so we can be considered for a venue, they want to see what we are exhibiting before they offer the venue

Possible Location for Exhibition: Euroluce

Located at 20 Russell St, Euroluce presents itself as an ideal location for the 2007 Industrial Design Exhibition.
We are looking at around 100sq metres enclosed in an impressive space, with prime street frontage, free designer lighting and affiliation with beneficial sponsors and designers alike.
Check the space out and post feedback.
It seems the space may cost us around $2000, for anything between 3 days up to 1 week.

Last Thursday Colloquim

To answer you question....

Last Thursday was our first Colloquim hosted by Aga, Rohan and Katie. Initially Liam spoke and projected images of previous exhibition years. We were shown a website for the University of Canberra Industrial Design Exhibition 06. Their exhibition looks very professional and travels from NSW to Melbourne and other cities by bus.

It is definitley worth a look at www.nblk06.net/

Katie distributed questionaires about the exhibition to everybody who attended. The questions included which people in the industry we would like to attend and also any contacts that may be able to help us in any way.

Other topics of discussion were sponsorship and fundraising. In previous years, students have raised up to $60 000 to spend on the exhibition. We may not need to raise this much but do begin fundraising.
Ideas for fundraising were brought up such as Soup Stall, house party, night out, Cinema night. The Cinema night at Nova in Carlton was very successful last year, and we are planning to organise a night very soon. The cinema can be booked out and half the proceeds of the ticket cost will go to rmit.

Other suggestions Welcome However.......

Sausage sizzles have been ruled out!
Last year of 1000 sausages were bought by students and only 3 were sold.

Wealthy relatives wanting to donate to the cause will be accepted

Hey guys.
I ordered the chocolates form cadbury as discussed. they will be delivered on thursday so hopefully I will have them for class on thursday. I ordered 12 boxes, so that shouldn't be too hard to sell. Just a reminder also that some of us agreed to meet tomorrow (tues 7th) at 9am to start calling sponsors. See you there.

Thursday, August 2, 2007

Hi everyone. Just wondering if someone could put up all that happend in the meeting last night. Not everyone could make it (myself included) and so if someone could catch us up, that would be great! cheers, liv

Welcome to the Graduate Exhibition Blog!

As the end of the year draws closer, so does the one of the most important industrial design events! This is your chance to show the public the accumulation of skills you have learnt in the last four years.

Mick’s prof prac class has a group that is organising the exhibition, but we also would like to have input from the from the rest of the year. This forum has been set up so that others in the year level can have a say in the exhibition and also see how we are progressing.
